History
Ormonde Primary Remains Dedicated to Nurturing Young Minds, Built Upon a Foundation of Long-Standing Excellence and Tradition
Ormonde Primary School was established in 2015 as part of an important shift in how school placements were managed in Gauteng. In the same year, the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) introduced its online school application system for the 2016 academic year. This new digital platform was designed to simplify the admission process for Grade 1 and Grade 7 learners, providing a fair and streamlined alternative to the long, overnight queues that had traditionally formed outside schools.
Although the online system made registration more accessible, its introduction also highlighted a growing challenge: many families were unable to secure placement for their children due to limited space in surrounding schools. The growing demand in the South of Johannesburg, particularly in the Ormonde and neighbouring suburbs, revealed an urgent need for a new school that would accommodate learners who were left without placement after the online application process.

Years of Excellence
In response to this demand, Ormonde Primary School was founded. Starting with only two classrooms, its initial purpose was clear—to ensure that no child would be denied access to learning due to space constraints. The school opened its doors to learners who had been unable to secure placement elsewhere, becoming a crucial support for families navigating the new admissions system. From these modest beginnings, Ormonde Primary grew steadily as the community embraced its mission. Year by year, additional classrooms, resources, and staff were added to meet the increasing enrolment. What began as a solution to an urgent educational need has since evolved into a vibrant, well-established institution dedicated to academic excellence, holistic education, and inclusivity. Today, Ormonde Primary School stands as a symbol of opportunity and community commitment. Rooted in its founding purpose, the school continues to honour its role as a place where every child is welcomed, valued, and given the chance to succeed.
